Gah! This is amazing. What a breath of fresh air. What are your citations and inputs for this relationship model?

Hi Zoe πŸ€— Thank you sooo much!

Gabriele Oettingen's work on mental contrasting. She showed that positive fantasies reduce motivation instead of increasing it. Your brain collects the emotional reward before you've done anything. Her book Rethinking Positive Thinking covers the career, romance, and recovery studies I referenced in the article.

Kahneman and Tversky's Prospect Theory (1979). Losses hurt about twice as much as equivalent gains feel good. That's why defining what you refuse to become moves you more than defining what you want.

The bids-for-connection numbers (86% vs 33%) are Gottman's. I wrote about those in earlier pieces.

Love Gottman. I’m familiar with Rethinking Positive Thinking, but I’ve obviously missed out on some important points in her work. Prospect Theory I definitely need to look at as well! Thank you.

I’m keen to look at your other posts πŸ™πŸ½βœ¨πŸ’«
